The distances are bigger than they often appear on a map, roads follow the landscape, ferry travel is part of everyday life in many areas, and weather conditions can change quickly. Having someone who understands how these pieces fit together can help you create a day that feels relaxed instead of stressful.

Local knowledge also helps when it comes to the smaller details. Some of the best vendors, accommodations, and locations are not always the easiest to find online, and knowing the area means I can share recommendations based on what actually fits your vision.

How We’ll Plan an Elopement That Feels Like Norway ?

There’s something about the Norwegian way of life that I love sharing with couples who travel here to get married.

Nature is part of everyday life in Norway. The simple pleasure of spending time outdoors, escaping to a hytte for the weekend, or heading into the mountains simply to enjoy being there. It’s a relationship with the landscape that goes beyond searching for the most impressive view.

And I believe an elopement here can be a beautiful opportunity to experience a little of that.

Perhaps you’ll spend the morning in a traditional wooden cabin, enjoying breakfast together before heading out. Maybe we’ll take a quieter road through the mountains, stop by a fjord along the way, or choose a place where you can exchange your vows without the crowds of a famous viewpoint.

Of course, there’s no single way to experience Norway. Some couples dream of hiking into the mountains, while others would rather spend their day by the water, surrounded by the people they love. What matters to me is finding what feels right for you, while leaving room to experience the place itself.

And when you look back at your photographs years from now, I hope you’ll remember more than the landscape behind you. The atmosphere of your cabin, the journey to your ceremony, the changing weather, and all those little moments that became part of your story.

 

My Norway Elopement Process

Step 1: Inquiry and Getting to Know Your Vision

The first step is simply starting a conversation.

After you inquire, we’ll schedule a call where we can talk about your story, your plans, and what led you to choose an intimate wedding in Norway. I want to understand what matters most to you, what kind of experience you are hoping to create, and what you envision for your day.

During our call, I’ll also explain my approach, what is included in my packages, and how I support couples throughout the process. While I’m not a full-service wedding planner, I believe your photographer should understand the entire experience you are creating. 

That means helping you think through locations, accommodations, vendors, and practical details that can feel unfamiliar when planning from another country, from ferry routes and road systems to recommendations based on my experience living in Norway. 

Once we’ve talked through your plans and I understand what you’re looking for, I’ll share the package options and pricing that best fit your experience. My goal is not just to make sure you understand what is included, but also to make sure we are the right fit for each other.

Many couples reach out before they have everything decided, and that is completely okay. The inquiry process is not about having every answer already, it’s about starting with your vision and figuring out the details together.

Step 2: Choosing Your Norway Elopement Location

Once you book, I’ll send you my elopement guide and a questionnaire to learn more about you.

I want to understand what matters most to you and what kind of experience you want to create together. Some of those questions will include details like:

• Do you want a quiet and private location?
• Are you dreaming of fjords, mountains, or the coastline?
• How much hiking feels comfortable, if any?
• What kind of atmosphere do you want your day to have?

Choosing your location is about more than finding a beautiful view. The landscape you choose will shape the rhythm of your day, from how you travel there, to how much time you spend exploring, to the feeling you have when you finally arrive. A dramatic viewpoint might be perfect for one couple, while another couple might feel more connected to a quiet coastline, a mountain valley, or a place that naturally allows for a slower pace and flow. 

Some areas also require different logistics, travel times, or budgets depending on the season. For example, popular destinations like the Lofoten Islands can have higher accommodation costs, especially during busy periods.

Many of the places I recommend are locations I’ve personally explored and kept in mind for future elopements. When researching somewhere new, I also consider accessibility, seasonal conditions, privacy, and whether the location works for the kind of ceremony you’re imagining.

Norway has a unique relationship with nature through Allemannsretten, the right to roam. It allows people to explore much of the country’s natural landscape, but it also comes with responsibilities towards the environment, landowners, and others enjoying these places. My goal is not simply to send you a list of beautiful places. It’s to help you find somewhere that feels right for your experience, your budget, and the way you want to spend your day.

Step 3: Vendor Recommendations and Planning Support

Once we have a better idea of your location, I can also help you with recommendations for any other vendors that make up your elopement team.

Depending on what you need, this can include:

• Officiants
• Hair and makeup artists
• Florists
• Accommodations
• Other local vendors

I never send couples a generic list of vendors and ask them to figure it out from there.

Instead, I first take the time to understand your style, priorities, and what you are looking for. From there, I can recommend professionals who are a good match for your vision.

For example, I wouldn’t recommend a florist simply because they are well known. I want to make sure their floral style, approach, and overall work align with the atmosphere you’re hoping to create. The same applies to every vendor I recommend. The goal is to help you build a team that feels cohesive and fits the kind of elopement you’re creating.

One thing worth knowing is that Norway has a relatively small wedding industry, especially once you move away from the larger cities. Finding the right vendors in more remote regions can take a little more research, and not everyone has a strong online presence.

Norway is also a country where personal connections and local recommendations can make a real difference. Sometimes finding the right person means reaching out to local contacts, asking around, or exploring options you wouldn’t necessarily come across through a Google search.

Because I live here and have spent years exploring different regions, I can help you navigate this process and discover people and places that might otherwise be difficult to find when planning from abroad.

 

Step 4: Creating Your Elopement Timeline

A few months before your elopement, we’ll start building your timeline. I’ll send you a questionnaire to understand how you want your day to unfold, from getting ready to your ceremony, activities, meals, and quiet moments together. I ask these questions because your timeline should be created around your priorities, not a standard wedding format.

But there’s another important element to consider when planning an elopement in Norway: the light.

Depending on the season and where you choose to get married, daylight can look very different from what you’re used to. In Northern Norway, summer brings the midnight sun, while winter days can be incredibly short. And in the fjords, surrounding mountains can hide the sun long before its official sunset time.

As a photographer, these are things I pay particular attention to when designing your timeline.

For example, when I photographed Marie and Gijs’s elopement near Eidfjord in mid-July, we planned their ceremony at Kjeåsen for 8:30 pm. At that time of year, the summer light remains strong well into the evening, so having their ceremony later allowed us to enjoy softer light for their portraits afterwards.

We also had to consider the journey from their hytte and the regulated access through the tunnel leading to Kjeåsen. Their timeline wasn’t simply about choosing a beautiful time for photographs, but making sure everything worked together without rushing.

Your timeline is also not about filling every minute. It’s about creating enough space for the moments that matter most to you. Maybe that means enjoying a slow morning at your cabin, leaving time for unexpected stops along the way, or simply having a moment to yourselves after your ceremony.

I never want your timeline to feel overly rigid or prescriptive. My approach to documenting your day is rooted in storytelling, leaving room for the movement, atmosphere, and small details that naturally become part of your experience.

 

Step 5: Your Norway Elopement Day

When your elopement day arrives, I’m not simply showing up with a camera. We’ve already spent time getting to know each other, exploring your ideas, and planning a day around what matters most to you.

My approach is rooted in cinematic storytelling, but not through staged or overly directed moments. I’m drawn to the atmosphere of a place, the movement, the changing light, and the little things that naturally unfold throughout the day.

Norwegian weather can be unpredictable, and I’m used to adapting to it. I prepare my photography equipment for changing conditions, from rain and wind to colder temperatures. Sometimes, that means adjusting our plans, finding a sheltered spot, or simply allowing a little rain or mist to become part of the story. Your comfort and safety will always come first.

Throughout the day, I’m there to guide you when you need it, whether that’s helping you feel comfortable in front of the camera, offering a little direction during portraits, or keeping an eye on the timeline we’ve created together.

But I also know when to step back. The quiet conversation while you’re getting ready, the anticipation before exchanging your vows, or a spontaneous moment along the way. These are the things I want you to experience fully, without feeling like you have to perform for the camera.

And when you look back at your photographs years from now, I hope you’ll remember those moments just as vividly as the landscapes you explored together.

Step 6: Reliving Your Experience Through Your Gallery

After your elopement, I’ll send a small preview gallery within 72 hours so you have a few memories to enjoy or share if you choose.

Your full gallery will be delivered approximately one to one and a half months after your wedding through a private online gallery.

My hope is that when you return to your images years later, you remember more than the scenery. You remember the feeling of that day, the places you explored, and the moments you shared together.
